Principal’s Message

Dear Skipwith Families,

Skipwith is celebrating another successful school year. We are very proud of our accomplishments and plan to move forward to continue our overall school growth. The 2022-2023 school year will have many exciting learning opportunities!

Skipwith Elementary School is a diverse and dynamic community that serves more than 500 students from over 30 different countries. We will continue to embrace and celebrate the many different cultures represented throughout the year. The students will learn how to collaborate and develop relationships which begin each day by reciting the Skipwith motto:

“We at Skipwith Elementary pledge to be a community of learners by being safe, responsible, and respectful.”

This school year will be the 65th year for Skipwith as it was established in 1957. Therefore our theme for the 2022-2023 school year will be “STARS”, “Sixty Five  Years of Taking Action to Reach Success”, we are “Skipwith Stars”. We will continue to provide engaging learning opportunities with ALL in-person learning. Our student expectations of Be Safe, Responsible, and Respectful will help us to continue to provide a positive learning environment for all students. We will build a culture of excellence by focusing on the social and emotional needs of all students, faculty, and community members and develop quality learning opportunities for all by utilizing the Henrico Learner Profile better known as HLP.

We will use the four pillars of the deeper learning model to guide our work this year:

  • Learning is any time, anywhere
  • Learning is authentic and connected
  • Learning is student-owned
  • Learning is community supported

The Skipwith PTA, faculty, and the administrative team look forward to working with you in the 2022-2023 school year. As the first and most important teacher in your child’s life, we need and welcome your support to help reach our school vision to have all students reading on grade level by 2nd grade or meet their personal proficiency.  We encourage you to become active members of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which is a wonderful way for you to share ideas and support our students and school.
