Principal’s Message

Dear Skipwith Families,

I am honored to be the 6th principal of Skipwith Elementary and it’s rich 60 year history. I will continue the high standards of developing lifelong learners by creating a positive and supportive educational environment. I will share my vision and commitment with a focus on collaboration, developing positive relationships, and accountability for all. With this team work approach Skipwith celebrated a very successful 2016-2017 school year. Our school academic goals to increase our SOL reading scores in 3-5th grade and decreasing the identified students on the K-2 PALS assessment were met!  We are very proud of these accomplishments and plan to move forward to continue overall school growth. We look forward to the 2017-2018 school year. We will have many exciting learning opportunities and changes.

Skipwith Elementary School is a diverse and dynamic community which serves more than 550 students from over 30 different countries. We embrace and celebrate our unique backgrounds and cultures each day. We will continue to celebrate the many different cultures represented throughout the year. The students will learn how to collaborate and develop relationships each day which will begin by reciting the Skipwith motto:

“We at Skipwith Elementary pledge to be a community of learners by being safe, responsible, and respectful.”

2017-2018 Skipwith Theme and Renovation News:

Our 2017-2018 school theme will be “Building for the Future”. Skipwith will begin our renovation and construction over the next two years!! Due to the renovations some school procedures will need to be adjusted to ensure the safety of the students and staff members. Parent drop off and parking will be much more difficult. Therefor we highly encourage you to have your children ride their assigned school bus to and from school. There will be four phases with the renovation which will start in September. We have six double wide learning cottages (trailers) in the middle of the track with 12 classes. The 2nd,3rd, and 5th grade students will be in these trailers for the duration of this school year. While there will be many challenges and adjustments throughout the year please be assured that we will remain focused on your children’s safety and education. This is an exciting time for Skipwith and we look forward to another successful school year.

The Skipwith PTA, faculty, and administrative team look forward to working with you in the 2017-2018 school year. As the first and most important teacher in your child’s life, we need and welcome your support to help develop our school vision of collaboration, accountability, and developing positive relationships. We encourage you to become active members of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which is a wonderful way for you to share ideas and support our students and school.

If you have any question or concerns please contact me via email at or by calling Skipwith Elementary at 804-527-4650.
